Braids are looking seriously fancy these days. They are longer, finer, curlier, more colourful and far more adventurous than the everyday styles we were used to. From tiny knotless braids that fall past the waist to sculptural cornrows, braided bobs and elaborate ponytails, the options keep getting better.
So, if your next braid appointment is approaching, here are a few ways to take things up a notch.
1. Go Long. Very Long.
Waist-length is almost beginning to look conservative. Braids are now falling to the hips and beyond, and while sitting on your own hair is an occupational hazard, the effect can be spectacular.
The secret is to keep them relatively fine and lightweight, so they move rather than feel heavy. Wear them loose with a simple dress, sweep them over one shoulder or pile them into a high ponytail and let the length provide all the drama.
2. Add a Little Curl
Boho and goddess braids have completely changed the mood of braided hair. Loose curls woven through the lengths make braids look softer, fuller and slightly less structured.
They are particularly beautiful when you want something glamorous without looking overly done. Just remember that those curls need attention. Detangle gently and refresh them when necessary, or the “boho” can become genuinely chaotic.
