Jewellery is one of the few things in your wardrobe that can stay with you for decades and still feel completely current. Clothes change, bags have their seasons, and even our taste in shoes evolves, but a great pair of earrings or a beautiful watch can follow you through different jobs, cities, relationships and versions of yourself.
That is what makes certain pieces worth spending more on. Not necessarily because they carry a famous name, but because you will actually wear them.
Start with gold hoops. There is a reason they keep returning to the conversation: they work. A small, beautifully made pair can go from a work meeting to dinner without requiring a second thought, while larger hoops bring instant personality to jeans and a T-shirt, a kaftan or a simple black dress. If you are buying for longevity, pay attention to the fastening, weight and quality of the gold rather than simply choosing the biggest pair.

A good chain necklace is equally useful. The best ones need little introduction. They sit beautifully against the skin, work with an open shirt, a slip dress or even a plain white tee, and can later become the foundation for layering. Choose something substantial enough not to feel flimsy but simple enough that you will not tire of it in two years.
Then there is the watch. Yes, your phone tells the time, but that has never really been the point. A beautiful watch finishes an outfit in a way very few accessories can. You do not necessarily need the most expensive name on the market. Look for good craftsmanship, a clean face and a strap or bracelet that will still make sense years from now. The sweet spot is something elegant enough for an event but relaxed enough for everyday wear.

Pearls deserve another look too. If they still make you think of conservative twinsets and formal occasions, jewellery designers have moved on. Baroque pearls, oversized pearl earrings and pearls mixed with gold or unexpected stones feel far more contemporary. Of course, classic pearl studs remain unbeatable when you simply want to look polished.
The same can be said for diamond studs. They are not dramatic, and that is precisely their strength. If natural diamonds are outside your budget, lab-grown diamonds and high-quality alternatives can give you the same clean effect. Buy the best your budget comfortably allows; jewellery should be enjoyed, not financially regretted.

A simple gold bangle or bracelet is another quiet hero. Worn alone, it is elegant. Stacked with a watch or other bracelets, it becomes more personal. Look for one sturdy enough to survive regular wear because this is exactly the kind of piece you may find yourself putting on every morning.
Finally, leave room for jewellery that means something. It could be your mother’s ring, a pendant you bought after a major promotion or a bracelet from a memorable trip.
